What is an auger filler?

The auger filler is a dosing device, often used for powdered materials, which is fed and dosed by a screw. The auger filler generally consists of 1 auger sleeve, 2 handwheels, 3 augers, 4 agitator paddles, 5 shafts, 6 agitator sleeves, 7 hoppers, 8 agitator gears, 9 discharge motors, 10 agitator motor (corresponding to the number on the picture). The metering device is driven by an AC servo motor (Fig. 9) to rotate the shaft 5 and screw 3, while the stirring motor drives gear 8, the stirring sleeve, and the stirring paddle to rotate so that the material filled into the screw is more uniform.

Parts of an auger filler

Hopper

This is a container hopper, which is of a monolithic construction. Inside the hopper, the powdered product is stored, and precise dosing is achieved by controlling the speed of the screw by means of the volumetric principle of the screw.

Drive assembly

The drive assembly of the auger filler is composed of 2 motors. As you can see in the picture above, there are 2 motors for 9 and 10 parts, one is to control the feeding and the other is to control the mixing. Auger

As the main precision component, the screw is the most important. Each screw has a theoretical volume, and the speed of the screw is controlled during each charging cycle so that accurate metering can be obtained.

It is made of high-strength, heat- and corrosion-resistant alloy steel, and is designed to push the plastic forward, causing it to melt by generating pressure and agitation while rotating and generating frictional heat with the plastic.

Agitator Blade

The purpose of the Agitator Blade is to make the material in the hopper more homogeneous and to prevent agglomeration. This design directly affects the mixing result of the material and ensures the homogeneity of the material, avoiding problems due to uneven mixing. The rotary motion of the mixing paddle generates shearing force and kneading effect, which makes the material undergo complex movement in the mixing drum, thus promoting the mixing and dispersion of different components. This shearing and kneading effect helps to speed up the mixing process and improve the mixing efficiency.

Funnel

The logistic characteristics such as fluidity and adhesion of different powders vary widely, and funnels are interfaced with packaging containers. The funnel can be equipped with different styles of nozzles according to the user’s needs. The right nozzle can avoid the problem of powder leakage or difficult or clogging of the material, and thus improve the filling accuracy.

Container Filling

Control Panel

Auger filling machine working principle

The working principle of the Auger Filling Machine is based on the “Quantitative Powder Packaging” technology, which is divided into three parts: Feeding System, Weighing System, Sealing System and Control System.

The feeding system takes the powder out of the raw material bin and transports it through the conveyor to the weighing system. This system consists of automatic lifters, vibrators, conveyors, etc. to ensure that the powder flows evenly into the weighing system.

The core of the weighing system is realized by the rotation of the screw and the real-time monitoring of the metering sensor. When the predetermined weight reaches the set value, the control system will automatically close the screw and complete the metering to accurately measure the quantity of powder required for each bag to ensure the stable and consistent quality of each bag of powder.

The sealing system mainly consists of fixture and sealer. When the bag filled with powder is transferred through the fixture, it will automatically be in the right position, and then the bag is fixed on the sealer, which effectively seals the bag through thermal pressure to avoid powder leakage.

The control system monitors the operating status of the equipment and controls each part. For example, when the hopper capacity exceeds a certain capacity, a signal is sent to the control system, which automatically stops the feeding system or gives an alarm indication.

Types of the Auger Filling Machine

1. Semi-Automatic Auger Filler

This type of Net Weight Auger Filler emphasizes the control of the net weight of the final package, which, like the Fill-By-Weight Auger Filler, uses a weight sensor to control the filling process, but then removes the weight of the packaging material itself from the calculation, and only the net weight of the material inside the package is accurately measured.

5.Multiple Auger Fillers

Multiple Auger Fillers are a good choice if your product requires mixed ingredient product packaging, such as breakfast cereals, pet food, premixes, etc., where several ingredients need to be filled in specific proportions. It is more than one screw, and multiple screws can fill multiple materials or different amounts of materials simultaneously or sequentially. This design improves production flexibility by allowing precise proportioning of multiple ingredients within the same package, as well as the ability to quickly switch between different product specifications using multiple production lines.

The uses of auger filling machines
